A great book by Teilhard de Chardin, containing 13 of his essays.
Essay titles include: "The Evolution of Chastity," "Reflections on Happiness," and "The Spiritual Contribution of the Far East" amongst others.
The essay "My Fundamental Vision" is perhaps Teilhard's greatest exposition of his thought, as it was in fact a defense he wrote to his Jesuit superiors clarifying his opinion in light of outcry against him. It is a masterpiece that today has still not found it's resting place, ebbing above the waters of theological thought.
"Like other great visionary poets—Blake, Hopkins, Yeats—Teilhard engages the reader both intellectually and sensually."
—The Washington Post Book World
In Toward the Future, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin returns to the question of what it means to be human and Christian in the modern age. Dealing specifically with what he believes is an "outmoded" concept of a Christ leading lost souls back to a rigidly straight path, he considers the various spiritual roads mapped by teachers of other faiths, especially in the Far East. And Teilhard, expounding on one of his most popular themes, continues to explore the nature of spiritual energy which, he maintains, will lead mankind toward an even greater intensity of collective consciousness.
"He could write with equal insight on the spiritual implications of the atomic age, the biological basis of the democratic spirit, the nature of Christian education."
—Time
